Peter Hyndal – Director

Peter 3Peter is an advocate and advisor on gender identity issues. He has an academic background in gender studies and sociology (majoring in social research methods) and has worked directly with transgender communities and issues since 1998.

Peter has an extensive history of involvement in local, national and international legal and policy reform including; the development of the Australian Passport Policy, the Australian Government Guidelines on the Recognition of Sex and Gender, and the recent reforms to the ACT Births Deaths and Marriages Registration Act. He has also been engaged in a range of UN human rights processes related to sexual orientation and gender identity issues.

Peter has provided policy advice and designed and delivered trans specific training packages to a wide range of organisations and government departments. He has also been invited as an expert speaker to a large number of national and international conferences, roundtables and other meetings.

Peter has designed, implemented and evaluated a number of award winning pilot projects including the development of an educational resource “Being True to Ourselves” and a number of other projects that have significantly increased the community engagement and mental health of transgender people.
